To encourage students’ questions and inventive ideas, I propose to offer library class time for students to explore, sketch, question, and write about their own and others inventive ideas. Lessons will include an exploration of inventions and inventors, and provide primary sources (from the Library of Congress database, etc.) as examples of the inquiry/inventive process used by inventors.

The Great War of the early 20th Century was fought by the greatest empires and industrial societies of the world. These empires had the capacity to use vast industrial and human resources to wage destruction. Additionally, it was necessary to shape the perspective of the population to support what turned out to be a war much longer than anticipated initially . The United States did not enter the war until 1917. How were posters used in the United States to mobilize people, educate the population, and construct a national reality? Use the posters to examine these themes in the United States during the war.

The ARS I am creating is on the cultures of the Pre-Columbian Native Americans Tribes/Groups. It is in two parts: A) how the Natives used the natural world for their survival, i.e. tools/weapons, clothing, shelter, transportation; B) chamnges brought by the Europeans. I am trying to get a variety of sources of the: Plains, Eastern Woodlands, Southwest, and Alaska.

I'm on information overload at the moment, but I'm attempting to gather resources to use as an introduction of the concept of Historoiography and the use of inquiry... I think.

My ARS is on "historiography". I'm putting together thought provoking sources of all kinds to introduce students to the idea of looking at primary sources and learning the process and vocabulary that historians use.

My project is to tie in primary sources to my unit "Road to Freedom" which is the period leading up to the Revolutionary war, and culminating with the writing of the Constitution.

Gretchen Nelson -- my resource set concept is in process. I'm aiming for a set that will demonstrate the variety of resources available on the Lib. of Congress website to elementary teachers. It would be a simple, 20-30 minute introductory in-service.
